Many different varieties of Turmeric are known such as white, black, yellow and red of which the most popular variety is red turmeric. Each type of turmeric has different properties and uses. Turmeric and its curcumin extract are known for its anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antioxidant, wound healing and anti-bacterial effects.

Main use however is in cooking where it is used for flavor and color. The coloring properties are also used in the traditional dying of clothes.
